Welcome to DiveSage Beta

DiveSage forecasts dive visibility at 450+ California sites every four hours, using oceanographic data and coastal topography. You're helping validate the model by comparing forecasts to real conditions.

Understanding the map

Each dive site shows two pieces of information at once:

Good day,
limited visibility
Good day,
excellent visibility

Dot color tells you how the current forecast compares to the site's typical conditions. Green means better than average, red means worse.

Halo size tells you the actual predicted visibility distance. A larger halo means you'll see farther, regardless of how the day compares to average.

This lets you answer two questions at once: "is today good for this site?" and "how far will I actually see?"

How to participate

Check the forecast — Find your dive site on the map and note the predicted visibility.

Go dive — Observe actual conditions at your site.

Report back — Click the "I just dove this site" button on the site's popup and complete the quick survey. Your feedback directly improves forecast accuracy.

Thank you for contributing to better dive planning for the California diving community!
